A miner leaving the Chudja mine in North eastern DRC after a torrential rain storm haletd opperations. the deep open pit mine becomes extremely dangerous when the rains hit. The Mine site was originally identified for  exploitation by artisinal miners in 1998. They abandoned the site during teh war when  a shortage of labor and insequrity forced  them away. In 2005 it  was  opened again. More than 2,000 people work daily in this mine..
