This sprawl of homes made from sticks, cardboard and  tattered remains of clothing is home to  29,000 people in Hargeysa, Somaliland. .Originally  State House was the seat of Britain's colonial governement in  Somaliland. During  the late 1980's   the building along with the rest of Hargeysa was bombed at the start of Somalia's civil war..When the governemnet of Said Barre fell  people returned from refugee camps in Ethiopia to Hargeysa. Many buildings had been completely destroyed and  those with outshelter began to settle in and around the  State House building..Even now families are  arriving for safety from Mogadishu..
