Kenya/Somali refugees. Takoy Osman Mohamed, a refugee from Berhare, near Kismayo, Somalia at an encampment in Hamey, Kenya along the dangerous corridor between Liboi and Dadaab. The 80 km journey takes 3-5 days by foot and is filled with bandits who frequently beat, rob and rape refugees. Mohamed left his adult children behind. "We were too desperate to travel together. We couldn't afford to wait. We've been hungry for months. Our livestock all died and after 4 months of suffering we were forced to go. If we stayed we could only expect death. There are more coming, many more. Thousands will follow," said Mohamed. UNHCR/Brendan Bannon/ July 2011
