Mohamed Barre Mohamed, age 80, travelled from Buale, Somalia to Afmadow by car and then from there to the border town of Dobley by foot over three days. Somali refugees prepare to be bused by IOM from Liboi, Kenya to the refugee camps in Dadaab, Kenya. As of October 3, 2001 some 14,183 migrants were transported from Liboi to the Dadaab Campby IOM. before these transports began in August 2011 refugees were forced to make the journey from the Somalia/Kenya border by foot, donkey cart or public transport, a dangerous journey during which many migrantss risked banditry and rape.
